In an environment characterised by globalisation, technologisation and increasingly shorter product cycles, knowledge advances are the decisive competitive advantage in many areas. To respond to this challenge, innovative companies have begun to address intellectual capital reporting to identify and ultimately leverage their critical intellectual capital. Standard intellectual capital statements do not suffice as an instrument, as they merely reflect the financial and material past of the organization. Intellectual capital is hardly considered.
